Help teenagers with mood swings!

This is a personal topic for me, I struggle to do this myself. I have been having these episodes where I lash out for 2 minutes. After a few minutes, I'm okay. But, my friends and family always say that “I'm being rude” or “I have such a bad attitude”.They don't understand what is going on. Especially my parents. This post will tell you what I do when mood swings kick in!

Some reasons you might have mood swings are:

Poor diet

Stress and anxiety

Trauma

Low-stress tolerance

Learning disability

Separation anxiety

Poor coping skills

Sensory processing

Too much sugar and carbs

ADHD

Overparenting

Poor executive functions

Mood disorder

Bullying

Finding what works with coping your mood swings can be difficult, some different ways to cope with your mood swings are:

  • Make time to sleep

  • Talk to your friends about what's going on and how you feel

  • Adjust your diet

  • Try to exercise regularly

It is hard to adjust to all of these suggestions up above but, give it some time and find time in your day to normalize these things. It will make you feel better mentally and physically.

I don't do these every day, but I try to. I make it a goal to try.

If you're struggling with mood swings, what do you do to maintain your attitude?

  1. Baeleigh, I think exercise is a great way to cope with mood swings and stress! I always feel better after a workout or walk if I have had a stressful day. Also, I have noticed that I get moody when my blood sugar is low. Sometimes having a healthy snack can help too. Thanks for sharing your ideas in this post!
